Basketball Game Preview: Nansemond-Suffolk Academy Saints vs. Atlantic Shores Christian Seahawks

The Nansemond-Suffolk Academy Saints will take on the Atlantic Shores Christian Seahawks in a holiday battle at at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Nansemond-Suffolk Academy knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past seven games -- so hopefully Atlantic Shores Christian likes a good challenge.

Last Friday, everything came up roses for Nansemond-Suffolk Academy against Isle of Wight Academy as the squad secured an 80-33 win.

Nansemond-Suffolk Academy found their leader in sophomore Madden Gilliatt, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and ten rebounds. Gilliatt also set a new season-high mark in blocks with three. KJ Pidgeon was another key player, putting up 15 points.

Nansemond-Suffolk Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 23 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in six consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Atlantic Shores Christian). They breezed by Broadwater Academy to the tune of 84-22 last Monday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory the Seahawks have posted since February 13th.

Atlantic Shores Christian has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a massive bump to their 3-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 71.3 points per game. As for Nansemond-Suffolk Academy, they now have a winning record of 4-3.

Nansemond-Suffolk Academy was able to grind out a solid win over Atlantic Shores Christian in their previous meeting back in January, winning 64-55. The rematch might be a little tougher for Nansemond-Suffolk Academy since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
