Softball Game Preview: Osbourn Eagles vs. Hylton Bulldogs

Osbourn is 0-6 against Hylton since April of 2015 but things could change on Thursday. The Osbourn Eagles are taking a road trip to take on the Hylton Bulldogs at 6:00 p.m. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

While Eagles fans will have to keep waiting for their squad to come home, they shouldn't be too worried about the road trip considering the result of Tuesday's season opener. Everything went their way against Gar-Field on Tuesday as Osbourn made off with a 24-7 win. The Eagles have beaten the Red Wolves the last four times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Red Wolves has come to flipping the script.

Tristyn Kershner was a standout: she scored five runs and stole Four bases. while getting on base in all six of her plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Britney Reyes, who scored five runs and stole a base while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances.

Osbourn always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .867. Their OBP was a full 0 higher than the also-impressive .562 that Gar-Field posted.

Meanwhile, Hylton narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Brooke Point 9-7.

Alanis Layne spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and six unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up 15 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Elizabeth Darr was incredible, going 2-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. Jasmine Hernandez was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

Osbourn couldn't quite finish off Hylton in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 and fell 4-2. Can Osbourn avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
