Basketball Recap: Green Hope Comes Up Short

If Green Hope was riding high fresh off their 59-34 takedown of Cary last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The match between the Green Hope Falcons and the Holly Springs Golden Hawks didn't end well, with the Green Hope Falcons falling 78-59. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Falcons came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 136th, while the Golden Hawks are ranked 320th).

Despite the loss, Green Hope still got an impressive performance from Abigail Brown, who dropped a double-double with 28 points and 17 rebounds. The game was Brown's ninth in a row with at least 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Iliana Hennegan, who posted ten points.

Holly Springs got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Kalaesia Lincoln out in front who went 7-for-10 to rack up 18 points and four steals. Another player making a difference was Nylah Collins, who went 8-for-13 on her way to 22 points.

Green Hope's loss dropped their record down to 17-7. As for Holly Springs, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-15.

Green Hope does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Holly Springs, they and Apex Friendship will face off at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday without much rest, having both just played. Apex Friendship will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something Holly Springs surely won't give up without a fight.
