Football Game Preview: Flint River Academy Wildcats vs. Edmund Burke Academy Spartans

After each having a week off, the Flint River Academy Wildcats and the Edmund Burke Academy Spartans will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field against one another at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Flint River Academy will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.

Last Friday, Flint River Academy made easy work of Terrell County and carried off a 37-14 win.

Ethan Newman had another great game (as he tends to do), rushing for 100 yards and six scores. Flint River Academy also got a significant boost from Nathan Mizzell, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 88 yards.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Flint River Academy was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 222 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 155 rushing yards in five consecutive matchups.

Flint River Academy didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Newman and Aiden Tindell.

Meanwhile, while it was all tied up 14-14 at halftime, Edmund Burke Academy was not quite Briarwood Academy's equal in the second half last Friday. They fell 28-21 to the Buccaneers.

Flint River Academy will need to focus on slowing down Noah Hickman, one of several Edmund Burke Academy players who made an impact when they last played. He rushed for 46 yards and one touchdown, and also threw for 143 yards and one TD. Cohen Felix was another key player, picking up 101 receiving yards and one score.

Flint River Academy's victory bumped their record up to 7-2. As for Edmund Burke Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 6-4.
