Basketball Recap: Mayfair Gets the Win

Mayfair picked up another tournament win on Friday. They pulled ahead with a 62-61 photo finish over the Aquinas Falcons. Given the Monsoons' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 118th, while the Falcons are ranked 756th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Malachi Jones and Lj Hall certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Jones dropped a double-double on 19 points and 12 rebounds, while Hall went 9 of 12 on his way to 19 points. Jones is becoming a predictor of Aquinas' success: when he posts at least ten boards the team is 2-1 (and 4-7 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Jumaa Kitendo, who went 5 of 8 on his way to 12 points and six rebounds.

Mayfair pushed their record up to 10-3 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. As for Aquinas, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-8.

Mayfair wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 65-61 victory against Millikan on the 28th. As for Aquinas, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 73-50 defeat against Leuzinger on the 28th.
