Recap: Newberry Panthers vs. P.K. Yonge Blue Wave
It was a good run, but the Newberry Panthers unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Tuesday. They took a 57-42 bruising from P.K. Yonge. Newberry has not had much luck with P.K. Yonge recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
Newberry's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Brandy Whitfield, who scored 15 points along with three steals, and Sarah Beaulieu who scored nine points along with nine steals and five assists. Whitfield is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last nine games she's played. Anesty Debose was another key contributor, scoring three points along with eight rebounds and three steals.
Ashlyn Young continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for P.K. Yonge, dropping a double-double on 28 points and 11 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Young has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Summer Barnett, who scored 11 points along with eight rebounds and three steals.
Newberry's defeat dropped their record down to 10-4. As for P.K. Yonge, they pushed their record up to 10-4 with that win, which was their eighth straight at home.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Newberry will be staying on the road on Thursday to face off against The Rock at 4:30 p.m. on January 18th. The Rock has now lost 12 straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 7. As for P.K. Yonge, they will head out on the road to face off against Forest at 7:30 p.m. on Monday.
