Volleyball Recap: Elli Hayward Leads a Balanced Effort to Beat Cornerstone Christian + How To Watch

DeLand-Weldon hadn't done well against Cornerstone Christian recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Eagles came out on top in a nail-biter against the Cyclones, sneaking past 2-1. The game was the first time the Eagles have beaten the Cyclones on their court since September 10, 2019.

It was an exciting match in which no team won back-to-back sets, but at the end of the day DeLand-Weldon got the one that really mattered. The final score came out to 25-13, 17-25, 25-21.

DeLand-Weldon's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Elli Hayward led the charge by getting ten digs, six kills, and three aces. That's the most digs Hayward has posted over her last six contests. Makenna Woods was another key player, getting eight kills, seven digs, and one block.

The victory made it two in a row for DeLand-Weldon and bumps their season record up to 9-13. As for Cornerstone Christian, they are on a 13-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-18.

Looking ahead, DeLand-Weldon will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Judah Christian at 5:30 p.m. As for Cornerstone Christian, they will challenge Decatur Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
