Volleyball Recap: Pender Starts Season with Victory Against Fairmont

Pender gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Monday. They blew past the Fairmont Golden Tornadoes 3-0.

The match was exciting from start to finish, as two sets needed extra rallies to gain a two-point lead. The match finished with set scores of 25-17, 32-30, 29-27.

Jensen Bordeaux had a dynamite game, getting 38 digs, six kills, and three aces. Those 38 digs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Eden Gurganous, who had 27 digs and two aces.

They weren't the only good server: Pender was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 12 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least seven aces in eight consecutive matchups dating back to last season.

Fairmont's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Layla Hunt, who had three digs and three aces. The team also got some help courtesy of Jerrian Taylor, who had 14 digs and two assists.

Looking ahead, Pender will square off against Wallace-Rose Hill at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Fairmont, they will be defending their home court for the first time this season when they go up against Purnell Swett at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
