Basketball Recap: Gering Comes Up Short

Gering extended their losing streak to three on Thursday, dropping them down to 9-9. They took a 63-56 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Sidney Red Raiders. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Red Raiders this season, with their most recent loss being a 73-35 defeat on Saturday.

Despite the loss, Gering still got an impressive performance from Ryland Ray, who went 7-for-15 to rack up 21 points and six boards. That was a full 37.5% of the Bulldogs' points, marking the third time in a row Ray has posted more than a third of the team's points. Hezekiah Garcia was another key player, putting up 12 points and six rebounds.

As for Sidney, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 7-12 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.3 points over those games.

Keian Kaiser was his usual excellent self, almost dropping a triple-double with 13 points, 12 boards, and nine assists. Another player making a difference was Alek Doty, who shot 44% from the field on his way to 14 points.

Gering wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 63-59 loss against Chase County on the 7th. As for Sidney, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 69-54 defeat against Scottsbluff on the 7th.
