Baseball Game Preview: Wayne Pioneers vs. Winfield Generals

Wayne is 1-9 against Winfield since April of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Pioneers will look to defend their home field against the Generals at 7:00 p.m. Winfield took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Wayne, who comes in off a win.

Wayne barely beat Fairland the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Pioneers put the hurt on the Dragons with a sharp 8-2 win on Tuesday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Pioneers.

Logan Prater made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits over five innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Wayne is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 1-5 otherwise. Prater was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4. That's the most runs he has posted since back in May of 2024.

In other batting news, Lucas Queen was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases and three RBI. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Fisher Fry was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Winfield unfortunately witnessed the end of their seven-game winning streak on Tuesday. They took an 11-7 hit to the loss column at the hands of Logan. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Generals, who until this contest were averaging 4.09 runs allowed.

Austin Blackwell was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Wayne pushed their record up to 3-6 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Winfield, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-2.
