The Culver City Centaurs will face off against the Westchester Comets at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Culver City is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.6 runs per game this season.
Culver City heads in on the heels of a playoff contest on Friday. They took a 7-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of Rancho Mirage. The Centaurs' defeat signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.
Culver City saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Miami McRae, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one double.
Meanwhile, Westchester came tearing into Friday's game with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.7 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top against the Unicorns by a score of 12-9.
Laylah Ali made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up five earned (and four unearned) runs off three hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April.
In other batting news, Raine Green was incredible, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Milani Jones, who went 3-for-5 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Westchester was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .531. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Westchester now has a winning record of 10-9. As for Culver City, their loss dropped their record down to 13-15.
Tuesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Culver City hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .367. However, it's not like Westchester struggles in that department as they've averaged .315. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
