Basketball Recap: Newton Comes Up Short

Newton was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their 19th straight loss. They took a hard 59-40 fall against the Andover Central Jaguars. While losing is never fun, the Railroaders can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 282nd in Kansas, while the Jaguars are ranked 93rd in Kansas).

Andover Central's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Reese Wilborn led the charge by putting up 17 points and three steals. Wilborn continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last four games she's played. Taylin Tabor was another key player, posting 14 points along with five rebounds and three steals.

Newton's defeat dropped their record down to 0-19. As for Andover Central, they have been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-7 record this season.

As of now, neither Newton nor Andover Central have any future games scheduled.
