Basketball Recap: Brylee Martin's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Elverado/Zeigler-Royalton over Pope County

Elverado/Zeigler-Royalton's game on Tuesday was all tied up 25-25 at the half, but sadly for them it didn't stay that way. They fell 56-48 to the Pope County Pirates. Elverado/Zeigler-Royalton has struggled against Pope County recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.

Elverado/Zeigler-Royalton's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Brylee Martin, who went 9 of 15 on her way to 19 points and eight boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Maci Caraway, who went 5 for 11 en route to 15 points.

Even though they lost, Elverado/Zeigler-Royalton was working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Pope County only posted four assists.

Pope County got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Bella Fasolo out in front who posted 22 points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Fasolo has scored at least a third of Pope County's points. Lawson Forthman was another key player, dropping a double-double on ten points and 16 boards.

Elverado/Zeigler-Royalton's loss dropped their record down to 5-16. As for Pope County, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 14-5.

While Elverado/Zeigler-Royalton had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
