Basketball Recap: Elkhorn South Takes a Loss

Elkhorn South was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were beaten by the Pius X Thunderbolts 74-39. While losing is never fun, the Storm can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 148th, while the Thunderbolts are ranked fourth).

Despite the loss, Elkhorn South still got an impressive performance from Aimee Burke, who posted 11 points. Another player making a difference was Alexa Eddie, who put up five points.

Hannah Bedient was a one-woman wrecking crew for Pius X as she went 10 for 16 en route to 20 points and eight rebounds. The dominant performance gave Bedient a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kate Miller, who went 5 of 7 on her way to 14 points and five boards.

Elkhorn South's defeat dropped their record down to 3-11. As for Pius X, their win was their ninth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-3.

Elkhorn South will face off against Millard West at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Millard West will roll in looking for their 14th straight victory, something Elkhorn South surely won't give up without a fight. As for Pius X, they will challenge Gretna East at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Pius X is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 58.7 points per game this season.
