Softball Game Preview: Dunbar Tigers vs. Gateway Eagles

The Dunbar Tigers will take on the Gateway Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Dunbar is coming into the matchup on a five-game losing streak.

Dunbar came into this matchup off a tough 12-run loss on Monday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of Golden Gate by a score of 15-13 on Tuesday. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Monday (12), the Tigers still had to take the loss.

Arianna Corgelas stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: she scored two runs and stole six bases while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged two or more in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Lisa Guerrero-Salinas, who scored two runs and stole five bases while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Gateway lost 12-2 to Cape Coral on Monday. The Eagles haven't had much luck with the Seahawks recently, as the team has come up short the last seven times they've met.

Dunbar's defeat dropped their record down to 1-7. As for Gateway, their loss dropped their record down to 6-5.

Thursday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Dunbar has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .552. However, it's not like Gateway struggles in that department as they've averaged .484. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Dunbar suffered a grim 22-5 defeat to Gateway in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can Dunbar avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
