The Athens Golden Eagles will head out to face off against the Brooks Lions at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Brooks took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Athens, who comes in off a win.
Athens' pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Monday. They put the hurt on Bob Jones with a sharp 10-0 win. The Golden Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three matches by ten runs or more this season.

Athens got a great performance from Camry Townsend as she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over five innings pitched. Townsend has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Lily Lowery, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. That triple marked the first that she's hit this season. Amaya Green was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.
Athens always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .533. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bob Jones only posted an OBP of .125.
Meanwhile, Brooks had to hit the road for their first game and it wasn't the result they were hoping for. They fell just short of Lawrence County by a score of 11-10 last Monday. While the Lions didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Red Devils 9-2 in the first period.
Baylee Darby made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs while going 3-for-5. Another player making a difference was Callie McCord, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.
Athens has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.8 runs over those games. Brooks' defeat ended a six-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 0-1.
Athens came out on top in a nail-biter against Brooks in their previous matchup back in April of 2023, sneaking past 3-2. Does Athens have another victory up their sleeve, or will Brooks turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
