Baseball Recap: St. Rita Victorious

St. Rita's game last Tuesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Wednesday. They walked away with an 8-4 win over the Homewood-Flossmoor Vikings. The victory continues a trend for the Mustangs in their matchups with the Vikings: they've now won three in a row.

Peyton Panozzo made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. St. Rita is 4-2 when Panozzo allows two or fewer hits, but 1-8 otherwise. Panozzo was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-1.

In other batting news, St. Rita got a big performance out of Colin Quinn, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI. That's the most RBI Quinn has posted since back in May of 2024. Joe Camer was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

St. Rita hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They are 2-1 when they post two or more strikeouts.

St. Rita's win bumped their record up to 5-10. As for Homewood-Flossmoor, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-8.

St. Rita and Homewood-Flossmoor could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings. The Mustangs will square off against Lane Tech at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday with a big rank disadvantage (307 vs. 111). Meanwhile, Homewood-Flossmoor (ranked 114th) will meet Lincoln-Way West (ranked fifth) at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
