Game recap

ROMA, Texas - After taking the lead in overtime, Edcouch-Elsa (Edcouch, Texas) held on for a 20-14 victory over Roma (Texas) on Saturday. The difference for the Yellowjackets was that Israel Loredo ran for a touchdown.

The Gladiators pulled ahead on a passing touchdown, and subsequently went into halftime leading 14-0. The Yellowjackets took the lead to win the game on a touchdown run by Loredo in the fifth quarter.

Despite scoring seven points in the third, Edcouch-Elsa still trailed by seven points going into the fourth quarter. But seven points in the fourth helped EE pull out the victory.

The Edcouch school also won the meeting between the two teams last season, 42-3.

The defeat comes as a step back for Roma, which notched a 49-20 victory over Cigarroa in its previous outing. The win was a nice bounce back for the Yellowjackets, who lost to Alexander last week, 28-21. The loss snapped Roma's two-game winning streak.

In a 4A Region IV District 32 game next week Roma (2-2) takes on Rio Grande City, and Edcouch-Elsa (3-1) will go up against Mission also in a 4A Region IV District 32 game.
