Switzerland County and South Ripley are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2021, but likely not for long. The Pacers will look to defend their home field on Thursday against the Raiders at 7:30 p.m. Switzerland County is coming into the matchup on a four-game losing streak.
On Saturday, Switzerland County came up short against South Dearborn and fell 4-1.
Switzerland County saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Roman Hite, who went 2-for-4 with one double.
Meanwhile, after low-scoring totals in their previous three game, South Ripley brought some dynamite into their most recent contest. They blew past Shawe Memorial 11-1 on Wednesday. With that victory, the Raiders brought their scoring average up to 6.4 runs per game.
Trevor Castner was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with four stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Trenton Smith, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
South Ripley hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post two or more strikeouts.
Switzerland County's defeat dropped their record down to 12-12. As for South Ripley, with the win, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 8-8.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Switzerland County has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like South Ripley struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
