Basketball Recap: Roma Takes a Loss

If Roma was riding high fresh off their 49-29 takedown of Juarez-Lincoln last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Roma Gladiators took a 58-48 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Mission Eagles on Wednesday. The Gladiators were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Eagles earlier this season, when they won 36-30.

Mission was led to victory by Jared Castro and Leon Villarreal. Castro went 8 for 13 on his way to 18 points in addition to eight boards and four steals, while Villarreal went 7 of 13 en route to 18 points. Villarreal's evening made it seven games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Pablo Zapata was another key player, putting up ten points.

Roma dropped their record down to 5-17 with the loss, which was their fourth straight at home. As for Mission, the win got them back to even at 14-14.

Roma will welcome Palmview at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Palmview is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52.6 points per game this season. As for Mission, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 66-40 victory against Juarez-Lincoln on the 24th.
