Basketball Recap: Goanar Bamach's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Benson over Millard North

Benson was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They fell 71-61 to the Millard North Mustangs. While losing is never fun, the Bunnies can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 149th, while the Mustangs are ranked 34th).

Benson lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Goanar Bamach, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 11 rebounds. Bamach continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Antonio Carson Jr., who went 5 of 12 en route to 14 points along with six boards and five assists.

Millard North's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Derek Rollins, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 11 boards. Rollins has been hot, having posted eight or more rebounds the last seven times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Deacon Courtney, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 12 rebounds.

Benson now has a losing record at 6-7. As for Millard North, their win was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-3.

Benson will take on Elkhorn South at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Elkhorn South has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Millard North, they will challenge Columbus at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Millard North's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last four games.
