Softball Recap: Wayne Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Altamont, Wayne was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Panguitch Bobcats a 14-0 shutout. Considering the Badgers have won 13 matchups by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Wayne got a great performance from Rylan Taylor as she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Taylor has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Wayne let Sophee Torgerson and Ava Snedeger run wild. Torgerson went 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs, while Snedeger went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Snedeger has been hot recently, having posted two or more stolen bases the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Oaklee Brian, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs and one double.

Wayne kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in four consecutive contests.

Wayne moved to 16-9 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak. As for Panguitch, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-7 record this season.

Wayne will have a chance to go back-to-back against Panguitch: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:30 p.m. on Friday.
