Football Game Preview: West Texas Comanches vs. Sanford-Fritch Eagles

The West Texas Comanches are taking a road trip to challenge the Sanford-Fritch Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (West Texas has seven straight wins, Sanford-Fritch has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

West Texas took a 57-point defeat the last time they faced off against Panhandle, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Comanches pulled ahead with a 50-49 photo finish over the Panthers on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Comanches have posted since November 1, 2024.

Cayde Winters had a dynamite game, rushing for 375 yards and seven scores while picking up 9.9 yards per carry.

West Texas didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Tj Riggs.

Meanwhile, Sanford-Fritch played a tough game on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were dealt a 41-13 loss at the hands of Spearman. The Eagles were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 20-0.

West Texas' win bumped their record up to 7-0. As for Sanford-Fritch, they now have a losing record of 3-4.

Everything came up roses for West Texas against Sanford-Fritch in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, as the squad secured a 68-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Comanches since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
