Shadow Hills is 9-1 against Rancho Mirage since May of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. Shadow Hills will take on Rancho Mirage at 6:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Shadow Hills has nine straight wins, Rancho Mirage has four straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Shadow Hills' pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. Everything went their way against Palm Desert as Shadow Hills made off with an 11-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Knights, who have now won seven contests by 11 runs or more so far this season.
Ava Valenzuela tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out ten over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two hits any time she's pitched this season.
At the plate, Gianna Hernandez and Amariz Rodriguez did most of the damage at the plate: Hernandez went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Rodriguez went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI Rodriguez has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Samantha Beltran, who scored three runs while going 3-for-3.
Shadow Hills was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .481. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .379 or higher in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Rancho Mirage didn't have quite enough to beat Coachella Valley on Monday and fell 4-3.
Amiah Olvera was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 4-for-4. Alea (Nissi) Marquez also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Shadow Hills pushed their record up to 9-1 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.8 runs over those games. As for Rancho Mirage, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-6.
Tuesday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Shadow Hills has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .511. However, it's not like Rancho Mirage struggles in that department as they've averaged .445. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Shadow Hills took their win against Rancho Mirage when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 13-0. Will Shadow Hills repeat their success, or does Rancho Mirage has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
