Basketball Recap: Dripping Springs Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Bailey Rogers and Rain Collins

If Dripping Springs was feeling good fresh off their 73-27 takedown of Akins last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Dripping Springs Tigers took a 58-41 bruising from the Austin Maroons on Friday. The Tigers have struggled against the Maroons recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive lost matchup.

Rain Collins and Bailey Rogers certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Collins posted 11 points, while Rogers put up eight points. What's more, Rogers also racked up two blocks, the most she's had since back in January of 2024. Another player making a difference was Ella Beatty, who had eight points and five boards.

Evelyn Young was a one-woman wrecking crew for Austin as she went 7 of 9 en route to 14 points in addition to six rebounds and five steals. Austin is 17-7 when Young posts five or more steals, but 2-3 otherwise. Jillian Shirk was another key player, putting up ten points along with five assists and three steals.

Dripping Springs' loss dropped their record down to 9-18. As for Austin, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 19-10.

When Dripping Springs and Austin next hit the court, they'll be up against teams who recently just can't seem to lose. Dripping Springs will try to stop Bowie's four-game winning streak when the meet at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Austin will take on Westlake and their five-game winning streak at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
