Baseball Recap: Iroquois West Gets the Win

The third road matchup was the charm for Iroquois West, as they earned their first away victory of the season. They walked away with a 7-3 win over the Milford Bearcats on Thursday. This was payback for the Raiders, who suffered an 11-10 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Izzy Alvarez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He struck out eight batters over 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits (and not a single walk). Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with one home run and one double. He also put up an RBI, which was his first of the season.

Alvarez wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Caleb Fauser, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. Julian Melgoza also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

The victory got Iroquois West back to even at 2-2. As for Milford, they now have a losing record of 1-2.

Coming up, Iroquois West will welcome Clifton Central at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Milford, they will take on East Dubuque at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday.
