Football Recap: Heidelberg Falls Despite Big Games from Chase Craft and Alrekus Graves

Heidelberg easily dispatched Taylorsville last Friday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Oilers fell just short of the McCallie Blue Tornado by a score of 21-18 on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Oilers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' football rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 33rd in Mississippi, while the Blue Tornado are ranked second in Tennessee).

Heidelberg's loss came despite strong showings from Alrekus Graves and Chase Craft. Graves gained 194 total yards and a touchdown, while Craft threw for 231 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 11.6 yards per attempt. Graves showed off some serious burst, cutting upfield on a catch for 50 yards.

Heidelberg didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Jovian Trotter and Ja'Kayden Moore. Trotter also set a new season-high mark in total tackles with nine.

Keeyshawn Schneider Tabuteau went supernova For McCallie., picking up 131 receiving yards and a pair of TDs.

With the defeat, Heidelberg broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 3-2. As for McCallie, their win bumped their record up to 5-1.

Looking ahead, Heidelberg will square off against Enterprise at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Oilers will be up against the Bulldogs' rather soft defense (which has allowed 27.6 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for McCallie, they will face off against Baylor at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The Blue Tornado will need to watch out since the Red Raiders have now posted at least 31 points every time they've taken the field this season.
