Basketball Recap: Morgan Township Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Madi Lemmons and Abby Wasz

Morgan Township was the 28-24 winner over Kouts when they last played one another back in February, but their luck changed this time around. The Morgan Township Cherokees took a 45-38 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Kouts Mustangs & Fillies on Saturday.

Abby Wasz and Madi Lemmons certainly did their best on Saturday to avoid the loss. Wasz posted nine points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals, while Lemmons had 11 points along with seven rebounds and three blocks. Wasz has been hot recently, having posted three or more steals the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Josie Lemmons, who put up ten points.

Leading Kouts to victory were Ellie Nemeth and Elizabeth VanKley. Nemeth posted 16 points and seven rebounds, while VanKley dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds. Another player making a difference was Sophia Tikalsky, who had nine points and six boards.

Morgan Township's defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 8-4. As for Kouts, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-6.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Morgan Township will host Hanover Central at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Hanover Central will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something Morgan Township surely won't give up without a fight. As for Kouts, they will welcome Lowell at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Lowell's defense has only allowed 27.9 points per game this season, so Kouts' offense will have their work cut out for them.
