Softball Game Preview: Monarch Knights vs. Cardinal Gibbons Chiefs

The Monarch Knights will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on the Cardinal Gibbons Chiefs at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Monarch's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Deerfield Beach with a sharp 26-0 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Knights.

Elena Ramirez made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March of 2024. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, Emily Phipps was a standout: she got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and five RBI. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Jayden Uzzo was another key player, scoring four runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3.

Meanwhile, Cardinal Gibbons took care of business in their home opener (barely) on Tuesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Pompano Beach, sneaking past 2-1.

Lydia Berent spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up 12 Ks.

At the plate, Skylar Flack was excellent, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.
