Soccer Game Preview: Glenvar vs. Alleghany

The Glenvar Highlanders will face off against the Alleghany Cougars at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Glenvar has 11 straight victories, Alleghany has 15 straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the pitch.

Glenvar's defense heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They put the hurt on Carroll County with a sharp 8-0 win. Glenvar might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 contests by five goals or more this season.

Their offense was hitting Carroll County from everywhere, as six different players booted in a goal. Annie George led that balanced group of strikers and accounted for two goals all by herself.

Fans were treated to a battle of the Cougars on Friday. Alleghany lost 6-1 to Patrick County.

Glenvar's victory was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-2. The road wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only given up zero goals over those six matchups. As for Alleghany, their loss dropped their record down to 0-15.

Everything went Glenvar's way against Alleghany in their previous matchup back in April, as Glenvar made off with a 10-0 victory. Will the Highlanders repeat their success, or do the Cougars have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
