Baseball Recap: Winfield-Mt. Union Takes a Loss

Winfield-Mt. Union extended their losing streak to three on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 3-9 in the process. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 6-5 heartbreaker at the hands of the Louisa-Muscatine Falcons. The Wolves were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Falcons earlier this season, when they won 11-1.

As for Louisa-Muscatine, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-9. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 8 runs in those games.

For Louisa-Muscatine's part, Owen Klocksiem made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off nine hits (and only one walk). Klocksiem was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. Those two runs gave him a new career-high.

Klocksiem wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Nathan Braun, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI. Sedric Lamb also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Looking ahead, Winfield-Mt. Union will challenge Pekin at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Louisa-Muscatine, they will take on Van Buren County at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
