Volleyball Recap: Newton South Find Success

Westford Academy typically has all the answers at home, but on Thursday Newton South proved too difficult a challenge. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Grey Ghosts 3-2. The win continues a trend for the Lions in their matchups with the Grey Ghosts: they've now won nine in a row.

Newton South had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first two sets, they turned around to win the next three. The match finished with set scores of 22-25, 22-25, 25-22, 25-18, 15-8.

Natalie Huang had a dynamite game, getting 23 digs and three aces. What's more, she posted five assists, the most she's had since back in September.

Huang wasn't the only good servers: Newton South was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 16 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least ten aces in five consecutive contests.

Newton South's victory bumped their record up to 11-6. As for Westford Academy, they moved to 13-4 with that loss, which also ended their four-match winning streak.

As for Westford Academy, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 3-0 loss against Chelmsford on the 26th.
