Softball Recap: St. Maries Lumberjacks vs. Orofino Maniacs
St. Maries extended their losing streak to five on Friday, dropping them down to 1-5. They lost 12-1 to the Orofino Maniacs. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Maniacs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 17-4 on Friday.
As for Orofino, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 11-1. Considering they have won seven games by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
For Orofino's part, Sady Olive was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Olive has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Paige Deyo was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Sierra Tonevold was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
St. Maries has already played their next contest, an 11-1 defeat against Grangeville on the 18th. As for Orofino, they will welcome Timberlake at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
