Baseball Recap: Western Brown Has No Trouble Against New Richmond

Western Brown had lost three games on the road, but after bumping their record up to 6-6 on Wednesday that streak is in the rearview. They were the clear victors by a 13-7 margin over the New Richmond Lions. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 4-1 back in April.

Braylen Fletcher spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered six earned (and one unearned) runs on seven hits. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Western Brown is undefeated when he allows at most one walk, but 3-6 otherwise.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Carter Saylor, who got on base in six of his five plate appearances with three runs, two RBI, and one double. Western Brown is 2-1 when Saylor posts two or more runs, but 4-5 otherwise. Another player making a difference was William Stewart, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Western Brown always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .548. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

As for New Richmond, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-12. That's two games in a row now that they have lost by exactly six runs.

On New Richmond's side, Hunter Ashley was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Trey Davis, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Western Brown will face off against Beechwood at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Broncos' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Tigers have averaged an impressive 6.5 runs per game this season. As for New Richmond, they will take on Wyoming at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
