Basketball Recap: Gibault Catholic Takes a Loss

Gibault Catholic was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They fell 59-50 to the Mater Dei Knights. While losing is never fun, the Hawks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 484th, while the Knights are ranked 167th).

Elliott Rakers went supernova for Mater Dei, dropping a double-double on 20 points and ten boards. The dominant performance gave Rakers a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Jared Hemker, who went 5 of 8 on his way to 10 points.

Gibault Catholic's loss dropped their record down to 2-6. As for Mater Dei, with the win, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 6-6.

Gibault Catholic and Father McGivney Catholic will face off at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday without much rest having both just played. Gibault Catholic is facing Father McGivney Catholic at the right time seeing as Father McGivney Catholic is stuck on a six-game losing streak. As for Mater Dei, they will welcome Gibault Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
