League recap: Cedarville scores huge upset over Atkins

3A Region 4 recap October 1, 2013

The biggest upset of the week belonged to Cedarville, who defeated 111th ranked Atkins, 21-20.

Charleston's Austin Pittman rumbled for the longest rushing play in 3A Region 4 this season in his game against Danville last week. Pittman ran for 60 yards on the play and finished with 108 on the day as his team defeated the Little Johns.

Lamar's offense was unstoppable this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Braxton Sampley threw for 223 and 2 touchdowns and Jalen Chenault had 81 yards receiving. On the ground Hunter Sanders chipped in 186 yards.

The Warriors' dynamic duo of Sampley and Chenault proved to be unstoppable against Lavaca, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week.

He went 9-16 with 1 interception.

Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, Charleston's Ty Storey and Taylor King have proven to be a lethal combination. Storey has thrown for 1,204 yards this season, while King, a 5-foot-8 receiver, has 27 catches for 429 yards. Sanders from Lamar leads the league in rushing with 426 yards.

An important game coming up in the league this week will be when Paris takes on Greg Kendrick's team. The Eagles are currently in fourth, while the Tigers are in second.

The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Paris takes on Charleston. Bryan Hutson's team has allowed 25 points this season, while the Tigers have given up 54.

The Pirates added to the longest winning streak in 3A Region 4 this week by beating the Red Devils, 21-20. This was the team's fifth consecutive win.
