Football Recap: Alvarado Indians vs. Glen Rose Tigers
Alvarado put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They put the hurt on the Glen Rose Tigers with a sharp 71-50 victory. The result was nothing new for the Indians, who have now won four contests by 21 points or more so far this season.
Cardea Collier continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 318 yards and eight touchdowns while picking up 18.7 yards per carry, and also throwing for 268 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 11.7 yards per attempt. His longest rush was for an incredible 75 yards. 102 of those passing yards were hauled in by Lance Sansom.
Alvarado's defense was in the mix too, especially the secondary: they snagged three passes before it was all said and done. It was truly a group effort as Layne Woolard, Sansom, and Sansom picked up one apiece. Leland Hopson is also on a roll when it comes to total tackles, as he's now made five or more in the last four games he's played dating back to last season. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Alvarado was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 359 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 304 rushing yards in five consecutive matches.
Despite the loss, Glen Rose still got an impressive performance from Josiah Groeneweg, who rushed for 296 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 9.3 yards per carry, and also picked up 40 receiving yards and a touchdown. The dominant performance gave Groeneweg a new career-high in rushing yards. Luke Males also helped out as he racked up 115 rushing yards.
Alvarado's win was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-0. As for Glen Rose, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-2.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. After each having a week off, Alvarado and Ranchview will shake off the cobwebs and take on one another at 7:00 p.m. on October 10th. Alvarado knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 31 points or more in their past five games -- so hopefully Ranchview likes a good challenge. As for Glen Rose, they will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Godley at 7:00 p.m. on October 11th. Glen Rose has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 136 points over their last three matchups.
