Basketball Recap: Schoolhouse Prep Takes a Loss

Schoolhouse Prep and Miami Christian squared off in some playoff action on Thursday, but Schoolhouse Prep had to settle for second. They fell just short of the Miami Christian Victors by a score of 52-49. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Wolfpack have suffered since January 7th.

Despite the defeat, Schoolhouse Prep saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Lya Gonzalez posted 25 points in addition to five assists and five rebounds. Gonzalez's evening made it 21 games in a row in which she has scored at least 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kalem Preston, who had five points along with 11 boards and five steals.

Schoolhouse Prep's loss dropped their record down to 15-8. As for Miami Christian, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 15-11 record this season.

Schoolhouse Prep and Miami Christian should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings. Schoolhouse Prep will face off against Atlantic Christian at 7:00 p.m. on February 13th up 199 places (120 vs. 319). Schoolhouse Prep is coming into the contest hot, having won their last five games. Meanwhile, Miami Christian (ranked 71st) will meet Boca Raton Christian (ranked 369th) at 7:00 p.m. on February 13th. Schoolhouse Prep is looking to tack on another W to their four-game streak on the road.
