Recap: Benson Bobcats vs. Willcox Cowboys

If the Benson Bobcats were feeling good off their 67-20 takedown of The Gregory School Hawks last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Benson fell 59-46 to Willcox on Monday. Benson was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Willcox apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2023.

Despite the loss, Benson still got an impressive performance from Kaylei Taylor, who dropped a double-double on 28 points and 11 rebounds. Taylor is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last eight games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Adalie Lewis, who scored seven points along with five assists and five steals.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Willcox to victory, but perhaps none more so than Mia Mungarro, who scored 19 points along with eight rebounds and eight steals. Mungarro also posted two blocks for the first time this season. Another player making a difference was Addison Burright, who scored 16 points along with seven rebounds and seven steals.

Benson has been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-6 record this season. As for Willcox, their win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 7-11.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Benson will face off against Pima at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Pima presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Benson in Arizona (Pima is ranked 29th, while Benson is ranked 117th). As for Willcox, they will head out on the road to challenge Santa Rita at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Santa Rita is out to stop a five-game streak of losses at home.
