Football Recap: Merced Skates Past Golden Valley with Ease

Merced extended their winning streak to six on Friday, bumping them up to 6-0. They blew past the Golden Valley Cougars 51-6. Considering the Bears have won three matchups by more than 31 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Dougie Andrews continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 93 yards and a pair of scores on only 11 carries. The team also got some help courtesy of Cammarri Jackson, who rushed for 63 yards and one touchdown on only eight carries.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Merced was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 220 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 220 rushing yards in five consecutive games.

Merced's defense stepped up as well, laying out Gab Richards seven times. The heavy lifting was done by Gavyn Maravilla-Sok and Tyson Espinoza, who racked up four sacks between them. The game marked Espinoza's first with multiple sacks this season.

As for Golden Valley, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 0-6. The contest marked their lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

When it comes to explaining why Golden Valley lost, don't look at Richards. Despite the final result, he rushed for 120 yards and one TD on only 15 carries. Richards really tore up the turf during one magnificent 90-yard run.

Merced didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 37-21 win against Los Banos on the 10th. As for Golden Valley, they have also already played their next contest, a 20-19 victory against Buhach Colony on the 10th.
