Basketball Preview: Central Christian Cougars vs. Cunningham Wildcats
Central Christian is 7-2 against the Wildcats since February of 2015, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Central Christian Cougars will head out on the road to challenge the Cunningham Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Central Christian entered their tilt with the Bulldogs with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Central Christian came out on top against the Bulldogs by a score of 49-41 on Friday.
Cunningham proved they can win big on Tuesday (they won by 21) but on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Norwich and snuck past 55-52. Winning may never get old, but Cunningham sure is getting used to it with their third in a row.
Cunningham's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Will Wegerer, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 11 rebounds, and Luke Albers, who scored 28 points along with five rebounds and three steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Wegerer has scored at least a third of Cunningham's points. Nate Sterneker was another key contributor, scoring two points along with six rebounds.
Central Christian's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-8. As for Cunningham, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 11-3 record this season.
Central Christian came up short against the Wildcats when the teams last played back in February of 2023, falling 61-53. Can Central Christian avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
