Baseball Game Preview: Hudson Cobras vs. Pasco Pirates

Hudson hasn't had much luck against Pasco recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Cobras will square off against the Pirates at 7:00 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Hudson played against Fivay on Friday and won via forfeit.

Pasco is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Fivay an 18-0 shutout. Considering the Pirates have won seven games by more than seven runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Jonah Carlyle made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, he posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI.

In other batting news, Pasco got a massive performance out of Bryce Mangiaracina, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. Mangiaracina is becoming a predictor of the Pirates' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 5-1 (and 4-9 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Boomer Newton, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base.

Pasco always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .645. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

The win (which was Pasco's third in a row) raised their record to 9-10. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.7 runs over those games. As for Hudson, their win bumped their record up to 16-8.

Hudson couldn't quite get it done against Pasco when the teams last played on Wednesday as they fell 13-9. Can the Cobras avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
