Soccer Game Preview: Lincoln vs. Leigh

The Lincoln Lions will take on the Leigh Longhorns at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

Lincoln is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to five goals two weeks ago, they were much more limited against Mt. Pleasant on Friday. They opened the new year with a less-than-successful 2-0 defeat to the Cardinals. While losing is never fun, the Lions can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 541st, while the Cardinals are ranked 235th).

Meanwhile, Leigh waltzed into their game on Friday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They rang in the new year with a 4-2 win over the Bruins.

Leigh pushed their record up to 4-1 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 21 goals over those three contests. As for Lincoln, they now have a losing record at 2-3-2.

Lincoln suffered a grim 4-0 defeat to Leigh when the teams last played back in January of 2024. Can Lincoln avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
