Baseball Game Preview: San Marcos Knights vs. Rancho Bernardo Broncos

For the second straight game, San Marcos will face off against Rancho Bernardo. The Knights will head out to challenge the Broncos at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. San Marcos will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.

San Marcos will bounce into Wednesday's matchup after beating Rancho Bernardo, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. The Knights narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Broncos 4-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Knights have posted since April 9th.

San Marcos got a great performance from Carter Tsai as he struck out seven batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits (and not a single walk). Tsai has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Evan Hall and Maddox Ponsford did most of the damage at the plate: Hall went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI, while Ponsford went 1-for-3 with one home run. That home run was Ponsford's first of the season. Stephen Pittman was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

San Marcos hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in four consecutive contests.

San Marcos' win bumped their record up to 15-4-1. As for Rancho Bernardo, with the defeat, they broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 11-10.
