Softball Game Preview: Calhoun Red Devils vs. Williamstown Yellowjackets

Calhoun is on a five-game streak of home losses, and Williamstown a six-game streak of away losses. However, someone's due for a change in luck on Monday. The Calhoun Red Devils will be playing at home against the Williamstown Yellowjackets at 5:00 p.m. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Thursday just wasn't the day for Calhoun's offense. They lost 14-0 to Doddridge County on Thursday. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Calhoun saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Remedy Riddel, who went 1-for-2 with one double.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 16 runs the game before, Williamstown was a bit more limited in their contest on Thursday. They came up short against St. Marys, falling 7-1.

Shayle Montgomery made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with two doubles and one run.

Williamstown's defeat dropped their record down to 6-15. As for Calhoun, their loss dropped their record down to 4-15.

Williamstown's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Monday. Calhoun has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.6 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Williamstown, though, as they've been averaging only 3.4 strikeouts. Will Calhoun keep running through batters, or will the Yellowjackets buck the trend?

Everything went Calhoun's way against Williamstown in their previous meeting back in May of 2019, as Calhoun made off with an 11-3 win. Do the Red Devils have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Yellowjackets turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
