Softball Game Preview: Alamo Heights Mules vs. Johnson Jaguars

The Alamo Heights Mules will take on the Johnson Jaguars at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Alamo Heights has struggled recently with seven defeats in a row, while Johnson will arrive with three straight wins.

Alamo Heights fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Boerne-Champion on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Chargers by a score of 5-4.

Brooke Butler put in work no matter where she played. She struck out six batters over four innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March of 2024. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 3-for-4.

Butler wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Elle Leavitt, who scored a run while going 2-for-4. Megan Hawkins also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.

Meanwhile, Johnson gave up the first runs last Tuesday, but they didn't let that get them down. They walked away with an 8-5 victory over Burbank.

Johnson's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 4-4. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Alamo Heights, their loss dropped their record down to 1-7.

Alamo Heights suffered a grim 9-3 defeat to Johnson in their previous meeting back in February of 2024. Can Alamo Heights avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
