Baseball Game Preview: Seattle Prep Panthers vs. Garfield Bulldogs

The Seattle Prep Panthers will take on the Garfield Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

Monday just wasn't the day for Seattle Prep's offense. They fell just short of Lincoln by a score of 1-0 on Monday.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Garfield, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They had just enough and edged out Lakeside 5-3. The win was some much needed relief for the Bulldogs as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.

Spencer Merwin spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned runs on ten hits. He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Garfield is 5-2 when he allows at most two walks, but 4-8 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Garfield saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Max Hudson, who went 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple marked the first that Hudson has hit this season. Another was Nash Whitford, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Seattle Prep has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-12 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Garfield, their victory bumped their record up to 9-10.

Seattle Prep couldn't quite finish off Garfield when the teams last played back in April of 2024 and fell 4-2. Can the Panthers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
