Football Game Preview: Elbert Bulldogs vs. Simla Cubs

Elbert is 0-4 against Simla since September of 2021 but things could change on Saturday. The Bulldogs will welcome the Cubs at 7:00 p.m.

Elbert is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Colorado's top teams: Byers, who was ranked 17th at the time (Elbert was ranked 16th). Elbert fell 36-24 to Byers on Friday. While Elbert had to settle for second, they closed the game well in the third quarter, where they outscored Byers 12-8.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Simla). They enjoyed a cozy 54-38 victory over St. Mary's on Friday. The Cubs haven't had any issues with the Pirates recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

Simla's win came from a few key players Elbert will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Evan Guy, who threw for 296 yards and four TDs on only 19 passes, and also rushed for 56 yards and a pair of touchdowns. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in passer rating (124.5). Another player making a difference was Ethan Kissam, who gained 279 total yards and two touchdowns.

Simla was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 280 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Simla's defensive line and their four sacks. Leading the way was Nathaniel Cauthon with two. He is also on a roll when it comes to total tackles, as he's now made seven or more in each of the last four games he's played.

Simla now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Elbert, their defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 6-2.
