Recap: Tygarts Valley Bulldogs vs. South Harrison Hawks
The Tygarts Valley Bulldogs's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their eighth straight loss. They took a 51-45 hit to the loss column at the hands of South Harrison. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Tygarts Valley in their matchups with South Harrison: they've now lost five in a row.
Sarah Defibaugh and Summer Lewis-Smith certainly did their best on Saturday to try and avoid the loss. Defibaugh scored 15 points along with five rebounds and four steals, while Lewis-Smith scored nine points along with 11 rebounds and three blocks. Lewis-Smith hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for four straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Alyssa Swecker, who scored nine points along with six rebounds and four steals.
South Harrison's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Adalee Wright, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds. Wright has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last six times she's played. Another player making a difference was Hope Woods, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Tygarts Valley's defeat was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-9. As for South Harrison, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 7-7 record this season.
Tygarts Valley will head out on the road to take on Notre Dame at 1:00 p.m. on Monday. Notre Dame has now lost seven straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since January 5. As for South Harrison, they will look to defend their home court on Monday against Calhoun at 7:00 p.m. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in West Virginia (Calhoun is ranked 98th, while South Harrison is ranked 77th).
