Recap: Veritas Academy vs. John Paul II Centurions

Even though the John Paul II Centurions scored an imposing 58 points on Friday, Veritas Academy still came out on top. Veritas Academy narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past John Paul II 61-58. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Veritas Academy also won the last time the pair played back in January of 2023.

When it comes to explaining why John Paul II lost, one person who can't be blamed is Eliseo Garcia. Despite the final result, he scored 36 points along with two steals. Garcia hasn't dropped below two steals for five straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Joseph Mata, who scored eight points along with 16 rebounds and two steals.

Veritas Academy's victory bumped their record up to 15-13. As for John Paul II, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost nine of their last ten games, which put a noticeable dent in their 13-21 record this season.

Veritas Academy on the road again on Tuesday and play against Brentwood Christian at 6:00 p.m. on January 30th. Brentwood Christian will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak. John Paul II does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
